Founded in 2014 by two business men, this is the first distillery in Kigali to open with a side snack restaurant on site, which by the way has a great view of the nearby communities’ distillery. They offer a great walk-through tour of the distillation process from grain to bottle. Since their establishment, they currently are proud producers of five triple distilled liquors, such as a Coffee Liqueur, Vodka, Light Spiced Rum, London Dry Gin and Single Malt Whisky and their products are available in many retailers in Kigali and throughout Rwanda
Their kitchen services makes it a great dining experience and with a guarantee in assuring good food from making quite a mouth washing steak or pepper sauce complimented by classy selection of wine you will eat to full on available extra chips tastings and fresh salad as you get lost away ta their evening outdoor fire
The presence of whisky tourists and their desire to visit distilleries and interact with their staff will help grow the number of folks trying out 1000 hills distillery.
Currently the distillery offers two majors tours the Distillery Tour with Tacos & Cocktail if you are looking for a tour with explanation of the processes and a Tasting of our Whisky, Gin, Rum, Vodka & Coffee Liqueur. Then you will be offered a cocktail or mixed drink served with Tacos, Salad & French Fries. Also available for groups are our special group tours & tastings with a stopover at the restaurant which offers you delicious views and fantastic food on the hills of Rwanda.
The spirit captured from the first still, known as low wines, is now fed into the second still which is known as the feints still. Here the distillation process takes place for the second time and the spirit captured following this distillation is known as feints.
The final distillation is the process that sets us apart for each of the craft products we produce the feints are fed into the third still, known as the spirit still, and distillation takes place for the third and final time.
The spirit captured at the end of this distillation is what will be matured and now has alcohol strength of +85% vol.
The real beauty of our triple distillation process is that we carefully control every step of the process, which allows us the opportunities to cut and redirect the spirit as profiles change between the wash, feints and spirit stills.
